Eine Zahl \(J\), die der Grenzwert der rationalen Brüche \[ J_{1}=\frac{P_{1}}{Q_{1}},\dots, \quad J_{n}=\frac{P_{n}}{Q_{n}},\dots \] ist, für die \[ | J-J_{n}|=Q_{n}^{-\varphi_{n}} \neq 0 \] (\(\varphi_{n}>\alpha\), \(\alpha\) beliebig), heißt eine ``\textit{Liouville}sche transzendente Zahl.'' Ist eine unbestimmte Gleichung \(F(x,y,\dots)=0\) von \(k\) Variabeln mit ganzen Koeffizienten durch \(k\) \textit{Liouville}sche Zahlen befriedigt, so ist sie es auch durch die \(n\)-ten Näherungsbrüche \(P_{n}/Q_{n}\) derselben für \(\alpha\) genügend groß.
