Dem Verf. wurde von Lord \textit{Kelvin} 1886 folgender Satz mitgeteilt: ``If in the case of each row of a determinant the square root of the sum of the squares of the elements be taken, the product of the said square roots is greater then the determinant''. Der von \textit{Muir} gegebene Beweis dieses Satzes wird an dem Beispiel der vierreihigen Determinante geführt. Ein zweiter Beweis von \textit{E. J. Nanson} benutzt das Induktionsverfahren von \(n-1\) auf \(n\).
