Die Elimination von \(a,b,c\) aus den 6 Gleichungen \[ y_{k}=au^{k}+bv^{k}+cw^{k} \quad \quad (k=0,1,2,3,4,5) \] liefert zur Bestimmung von \(a\) und (\(u\) resp.) \(\alpha=u-1\) die Gleichung: \[ \left|\begin{matrix} 1 & \alpha & \alpha^{2} & \alpha^{3} \\ y_{0} & \varDelta_{0} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{II}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{III}} \\ \varDelta_{0} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{II}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{III}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{IV}} \\ \varDelta_{0}^{\text{II}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{III}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{IV}} & \varDelta_{0}^{\text{V}} \end{matrix}\right| =0 ; \quad a= \frac{\varDelta_{0}^{\text{II}}-(\beta+\gamma)\varDelta_{0}+\beta\gamma y_{0}}{(\alpha-\beta)(\alpha-\gamma)}. \] Dabei ist \(\varDelta_{k}=y_{k+1}-y_{k}\), \(\varDelta_{k}^{\text{II}}=\varDelta_{k+1}- \varDelta_{k}\), \(\varDelta_{k}^{\text{III}}=\varDelta_{k+1}^{\text{II}}-\varDelta_{k}^{\text{II}}\), \(\dots\), \(\beta=v-1\), \(\gamma =w-1\). Analoge Formeln gelten für \(b\), \(\beta\) und \(c\), \(\gamma\). Diese Formel erweist sich als zweckmässig zum Ersatz für die Sterbe- und Invaliditätstafeln, bei den ersteren namentlich für die Lebensalter zwischen 20 und 66 Jahren.
