Es wird folgende Aufgabe behandelt: Gegeben sind \(n\) Buchstaben, von denen \(a\)-mal \(\alpha\), \(b\)-mal \(\beta\), \(c\)-mal \(\gamma\) u. s. w. vorkommt, \[ n=a+b+c+\cdots \; \cdot \] Gesucht wird die Anzahl der Permutationen, welche \(r\) Berührungen von \(\alpha\), \(s\) Berührungen von \(\beta\), \(t\) Berührungen von \(\gamma\) u. s. w. enthalten. Eine Berührung (contact) findet statt zwischen zwei gleichen neben einander stehenden Elementen.
