Das Kriterium der Darstellbarkeit einer quadratischen Form von \(m\) Variabeln als Summe von \(m-n\) Quadraten ist bekanntlich das Verschwinden aller Unterdeterminanten (der Discriminante) von der Ordnung \(n-1\) (ohne dass es alle von der Ordnung \(n\) thun). Es wird nachgewiesen, welche von diesen Bedingungsgleiehungen unabhängig sind. Es sind der Zahl nach \(\frac{n(n+1)}{2}\).
