Ist \(ft=(t-x_{1})\;(t-x_{2})\ldots(t-x_{n})\) und \(F(t_{1},t_{2},\ldots t_{n})\) irgend eine ganze rationale Function der \(n\) Grössen \(t_{1},\;t_{2},\;\ldots\;t_{n},\) so nehme man \[ F=\Delta.V, \] wo \(\Delta=(t_{1}-t_{2})\ldots(t_{1}-t_{n})\;(t_{2}-t_{1})\ldots(t_{2}-t_{n})\ldots(t_{n}-t_{n-1})\) und \(V\) eine ganze rationale Function von \(t_{1},\;t_{2},\ldots t_{n}.\) Ist \(V\) eine symmetrische Function, so ergiebt sich für \(V(x_{1},x_{2},\ldots x_{n})\) ein independenter Ausdruck durch die Coefficienten der Gleichung \(ft=0.\)
