    Sind \(a\) und \(r\) ungerade ganze Primzahlen; \(a\) beliebig gegeben, \(r\) innerhalb \(1..2a-1\) eingeschlossen, \(p\) eine ungerade Primzahl \(=2an+r\), so ist \((\frac{a}{p})=(-1)^{\frac{a-1}{2}n+m}\); also wenn \(q=2an'+r\), so wird \(\left( \frac{a}{p} \right) \left( \frac{a}{q} \right) =(-1)^{\frac{a-1}{2}(n+n\prime)}\) Setzt man \(p\) \(=q+2^{\nu}\cdot a\), wo \(2^{\nu}\) die höchste in \(p-q\) enthaltene Potenz von 2 ist, so lässt sich die obige Gleichung auch in die Form \[ \left( \frac{p}{q} \right) \left( \frac{q}{p} \right) =(-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}+\nu[E(\frac{p+1}{4}) +E(\frac{q+1}{4})] +\frac{a-1}{2}(n+n')} \] bringen. Hieraus wird dann ein Beweis des Reciprocitätsgesetzes hergeleitet.
