The main result of the paper is a construction of a bivariant Chern character for families of Connes's spectral triples (noncommutative spaces) over another non-commutative space represented by an algebra \(B\), extending some earlier results of Connes-Moscovici on Chern character of spectral triples, and also some results of Cuntz-Quillen, Nistor and others concerning families of spectral triples. The Chern character constructed in the paper is a map \(ch: \Psi^\theta_\bullet(A,\widetilde B)\to HE_\bullet(A, B)\), where \(\Psi^\theta_\bullet(A,\widetilde B)\) is the semigroup of suitable \(A-B\)-bimodules (by definition families of spectral triples over \(B\), here satisfying certain \(\theta\)-summability condition; \(\widetilde B\) is the unitalization of \(B\)) and \(HE_\bullet(A, B)\) is the bivariant entire cyclic cohomology of \(A\) and \(B\). The Chern invariant enjoys usual properties of functoriality, additivity and differentiable homotopy invariance. The construction, which is in the framework of bornological algebras, is complicated and makes use of both the Connes and Cuntz-Quillen representations of cyclic cohomology and involves in an essential manner Quillen's idea of heat kernel regularization of Chern character. The author attempts to make the paper reasonably self-contained by recalling basic facts on bornological vector spaces and algebras, as well as on cyclic cohomology. The paper is concluded with exemplary computations involving the new Chern character and ordinary \(K\)-theory.
