The author gives differential-geometric conditions that determine the congruence class of a holomorphic mapping into a Hermitian symmetric space, in a fairly general setting. The mappings have to be ``infinitesimally full'' in the author's sense. The results extend Calabi's rigidity theorem [\textit{E. Calabi}, Ann. Math., II. Ser. 58, 1-23 (1953; Zbl 0051.13103)] in a certain direction.
