The Poisson equation \(\Delta u- c(x)u= f(x)\) with Dirichlet's boundary condition on a two-dimensional domain \(\Omega\) is discretized by Shortley-Weller's finite-difference formula. It is then shown that, if the exact solution \(u\) lives in \(C^{3,1}(\overline\Omega)\), the approximate solution has \({\mathcal O}(h^2)\) accuracy at every nodal point and even \({\mathcal O}(h^3)\) at every nodal point close (with accuracy \({\mathcal O}(h)\)) to the boundary. Similar results are established also for the Hölder cases \(u\in C^{l+ 1,\alpha}(\overline\Omega)\) with \(l= 1,2\). These results are illustrated by numerical examples with \(\Omega\) a unit disk.
