The author discusses a type of modification of the SLEDGE and SLEIGH packages for the solution of a one-dimensional Sturm-Liouville equation. He divides the interval of interest into a number of subintervals and uses linear approximations over these. He develops three projectors needed for the method discussed and gives an error analysis for the approximate solutions developed. Suggestions are given for extending the method to singular problems. The analysis is applied to two particular problems and it is shown that the results are satisfactory.
