This paper emerges from the classification problem of flag transitive circular extensions of finite dual linear spaces. In essence, the authors treat the case where the linear space is an affine space of order \(q>2\) and of dimension \(n>2\). They reduce the problem to one-dimensional affine groups by proving that for a flag transitive circular extension of a finite dual affine space (of order \(q>2\) and dimension \(n>2)\) either one necessarily has \((n,q)= (3,4)\) and then one has one of two examples related to the sporadic Mathieu group \(M_{22}\), or the action of the stabilizer of any element of type corresponding to an end node of the diagram on the corresponding residue acts as a 1-dimensional affine group on that residue. As a corollary, the authors classify, again up to certain 1-dimensional affine cases, all 2-transitive \(d\)-dimensional dual hyperovals in projective spaces. The paper is full of beautiful geometric and synthetic arguments. Also non-trivial group theoretic arguments are used (in fact, the authors use the classification of finite simple groups). We finally note that something has gone wrong with the numbering of references, as clearly some citations are not what they are meant to be. Maybe this is related to the fact that references 12 and 24 are identical (and neither is on the right alphabetical place).
