With a simply connected domain \(\Omega\) in the complex plane and a positive integer \(n\), let \({\mathcal A}(\Omega, n)\) be the class of bounded Fredholm operators \(T\) on a separable Hilbert space \({\mathcal H}\) which satisfy: (i) \(T\) is essentially normal; (ii) \(\sigma(T)= \overline\Omega\), \(\rho_F(T)\cap \sigma(T)= \Omega\), where \(\sigma(T)\) and \(\rho_F(T)\) are, respectively, the spectrum of Fredholm domain of \(T\); (iii) \(\text{ind}(\lambda- T)=-n\), \(\text{nul}(\lambda- T)= 0\), \(\lambda\in\Omega\). Then the paper under review claims the following results: For given \(T_1\) and \(T_2\) in \({\mathcal A}(\Omega, n)\) and each \(\varepsilon> 0\) there exists a compact operator \(K\) on \({\mathcal H}\) with \(\|K\|<\varepsilon\) such that \(T_1+ K= R^{-1} T_2R\) for some invertible bounded operator \(R\) on \({\mathcal H}\) which is a sum of a unitary operator and a compact operator. For given \(T\in{\mathcal A}(\Omega, n)\) and each \(\varepsilon> 0\) there exists a compact operator \(K\) on \({\mathcal H}\) with \(\|K\|< \varepsilon\) such that \(T_1+ K\) does not commute with any nontrivial idempotent. However, it is a little pity that the description is sometimes unclear because some notions/notations used are not self-contained.
