Let \((M_n)\) be a sequence of positive numbers satisfying \(M_0=1\) and \({m+n\choose n}\leq M_{m+n}/M_mM_n\) for \(m\), \(n\) non-negative integers. Let \(X\) be a perfect, compact subset of the complex plane and let \(D(X,M)\) denote the set of all infinitely differentiable functions \(f: X\to{\mathbb C}\) for which \(\|f\|=\sum_{n=0}^\infty\|f^{(n)}\|_\infty/M_n\) is finite. With pointwise algebraic operations, \(D(X,M)\) is a commutative normed algebra. For some sets \(X\) (e.g. the closed unit interval or the closed unit disc) the algebra \(D(X,M)\) is complete for every weight \((M_n)\). The weight sequence \((M_n)\) is nonanalytic if \(\lim_{n\to\infty}(n!/M_n)^{1/n}=0\). It is known that the algebra \(D(X,M)\) includes all the rational functions with poles off \(X\) if and only if the weight sequence is nonanalytic. The paper is devoted to study endomorphisms of such algebras. If the maximal ideal space of the algebra \(D(X,M)\) is equal to \(X\), then the problem of determining the general form of an endomorphism of \(D(X,M)\) can be restated as follows: what conditions should satisfy a map \(\varphi: X\to X\) in order to have \(f\circ \varphi\in D(X,M)\) for every \(f\in D(X,M)\). The authors obtained several results concerning this problem which can be divided into two groups: \(\bullet\) the weight \((M_n)\) is arbitrary and some conditions are imposed on the map \(\varphi\), \(\bullet\) the map \(\varphi\) is quite general but the weight \((M_n)\) is properly constructed. The final part of the paper deals with the case when \(X=\overline{\mathbb D}\) is the closed unit disc and the map \(\varphi\) is analytic on \(\overline{\mathbb D}\). Among the others they proved the following: Theorem. Suppose \((M_n)\) is a nonanalytic weight sequence and \(\varphi\) is an inner function in \(D(\overline{\mathbb D},M)\). Them \(\varphi\) does not induce an endomorphism of \(D(\overline{\mathbb D},M)\) unless \(\varphi\) is a constant or a rotation.
