The method of wrinkling of singularities has been introduced by the authors in [Invent. Math. 130, No. 2, 345-369 (1997; Zbl 0896.58010)]. In a second paper about this topic [Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 11, No. 2, 321-350 (1998; Zbl 0927.58022)] the authors give applications of this technique in foliation theory. In the present paper they apply the above method to establish an \(h\)-principle for functions with only Morse and death-birth type singularities (Generalized Morse Functions) that extends an important theorem of \textit{K. Igusa} [Ann. Math., II Ser. 119, 1-58 (1984; Zbl 0548.58005)] on the homotopy type of the space of generalized Morse functions. For a much simplified proof of the theorem of K. Igusa see the paper [Complements of discriminants of smooth maps: topology and applications, Transl. Math. Monogr. 98 (1992; Zbl 0762.55001)] by \textit{V. A. Vassiliev}.
