The authors introduce the notion of Orlicz-Pettis polynomials on Banach spaces by several equivalent conditions and they study the relationship to other similar classes of polynomials. In the linear case, an operator \(P\in{\mathcal L}(X, Y)\) is an Orlicz-Pettis operator if it satisfies one of the following equivalent conditions: a) If \(\sum x_n\) is w.u.C. in \(X\) and if \(\sum P(x_n)\) is unconditionally convergent in \(Y\), then \(\sum x_n\) is unconditionally convergent in \(X\). b) If \(\sum x_n\) is w.u.C. in \(X\) and \(\{P(\sum^\infty_{i=1} \langle a_n, e_i\rangle x_i)\}_{n\in\mathbb{N}}\) is relatively \(w\)-compact in \(Y\) for each bounded sequence \((a_n)\subseteq c_0\), then \(\sum x_n\) is unconditionally convergent. It is shown by constructing a polynomial \(P\in{\mathcal P}({^2c_0}, c_0)\) that in the polynomial case the conditions a) and b) differ. As the most general definition the authors use b) as the definition of Orlicz-Pettis polynomials \(P\) and they give some more equivalent conditions, among them the followin one: \(P\in{\mathcal P}({^k X},Y)\) is an Orlicz-Pettis polynomial iff for every non-compact operator \(S\in{\mathcal L}(c_0, X)\) the product \(P\cdot S\in{\mathcal P}({^kc_0}, Y)\) is non-compact-polynomial. Canonical examples of Orlicz-Pettis polynomials on an arbitrary Banach space \(X\) are the polynomials \(\gamma_k\in{\mathcal P}({^k X},\widehat{\bigotimes}^k_\pi X)\) given by \(\gamma_k(x)= x^{(k)}\).
