The finite-element method for symmetric nonlinear eigenvalue problems (Q1569393)

The author uses the finite element method to approximate a symmetric nonlinear variational eigenvalue problem. He formulates a variational nonlinear eigenvalue problem in a Hilbert space and a theorem on the existence of the spectrum and on its properties. A general scheme of internal approximation of the formulated problem is explained and theorems on the convergence of the approximate eigenvalues and eigenelements are proved. Error estimates of the approximate eigenvalues and eigensubspaces are suggested. A numerical algorithm is developed for solving the discrete problem.
