All groups considered are finite. A nonempty formation \(\mathfrak F\) is said to be solubly saturated or composition if it contains an arbitrary group \(G\) that has a soluble normal subgroup \(N\) such that \(G/\Phi(N)\in{\mathfrak F}\). The product \(\mathfrak{MH}\) of nonempty formations \(\mathfrak M\) and \(\mathfrak H\) is the class \(\{G\mid G^{\mathfrak H}\in{\mathfrak M}\}\), where \(G^{\mathfrak H}\) is the intersection of all kernels of epimorphisms of the group \(G\) onto groups in \(\mathfrak H\). In the Kourovka Notebook [see Kourovka Notebook. Unsolved problems of group theory. 12th ed., Novosibirsk (1992; Zbl 0831.20003)] it is posed the following Question~12.74. If \(\mathfrak F=\mathfrak{MH}\) is a one-generated composition formation, where \(\mathfrak M\) and \(\mathfrak H\) are non-trivial formations, is \(\mathfrak M\) a composition formation? In the present paper it is obtained a negative answer to Question~12.74.
