The author considers a coupled system of two nonlinear springs and transforms the model equations into a polar normal-form where the amplitude equations are given by \(\dot x=xB(x,y)\), \(\dot y=y C(x,y)\) plus high-order perturbation terms. Under the hypothesis that the rest point at the origin is an attractor, the asymptotic behavior of the high-order derivatives of orbits is investigated, especially for the special case \(\dot x=-x^3+2 x^2 y-2 xy^2- x^5\), \(\dot y=-y^3\), where it is found that the third and higher-order derivatives (\(d^ky/dx^k\)) of the generic orbit blow up as the corresponding trajectory approaches the origin.
