Rings with a local cohomology theorem and applications to cohomology rings of groups (Q1571066)

The authors formulate a purely algebraic form of the duality properties of cohomology rings of various classes of groups expressed in terms of their local cohomology. They prove that the Hilbert function of an arbitrary almost Cohen-Macaulay ring satisfying a local cohomology theorem satisfies a pair of functional equations, thus proving a conjecture of \textit{D. J. Benson} and \textit{J. P. C. Greenlees} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 122, No. 1-2, 41-53 (1997; Zbl 0886.57022) and J. Algebra 192, No. 2, 678-700 (1997; Zbl 0901.20040)].
