This paper is devoted to a problem often arising in studies in the field of molecular genetics and in rational drug design technology consisting in the identification of the relative arrangement of two biopolymer molecules that ensures minimization of the weighted sum of the squared distances between selected atoms in the monomers forming these molecules. An exact analytical solution to this problem is given.
