A method is proposed and investigated for a selfadjoint spectral problem that is nonlinear in the spectral parameter. The main computational part of the method lies in the solution of the appropriate problem in a space of smaller dimension. The method can be used to solve algebraic spectral problems arising in grid, finite element and superelement methods.
