On the completeness of the set of eigen- and associated functions of a waveguide (Q1571300)

The authors consider the problem of the discreteness of the spectrum for a waveguide with inhomogeneous dielectric filling and the completeness of the set of eigen- and associated functions. As was demonstrated in a number of publications, this problem is very important, in particular in applications to the excitation of wave-guiding structures. The main difference of the approach proposed in the present paper lies in the fact that the problem is reduced to the analysis of the spectral problem for an elliptic operator.
