In the paper under review, the author considers the following question. Given a topological group \(G\), find sufficient conditions on \(G\) such that each finite homomorphic image \(F\) of \(G\) is isomorphic to a quotient \(G/N\), where \(N\) is a closed invariant subgroup of \(G\). More precisely, a topological group \(G\) has the finite quotient property \((FQP)\) if, given any invariant subgroup \(N\trianglelefteq G\), there exists a closed invariant subgroup \(N'\trianglelefteq G\) with \(G/N \simeq G/N'\). The main result is a characterization of abelian topological groups of bounded exponent with FQP. Let \(G\) be an abelian topological group of bounded exponent, and denote its dual group by \(\widehat G\), i.e. \(\widehat G\) is the group of continuous characters of \(G\). Then \(G\) has the FQP if and only if for each finite subgroup \(F\leq G\) there exists a finite subgroup \(F'\leq G^{\wedge \wedge}\) of the bidual isomorphic to \(F\). A corollary to this theorem states that each compact abelian group has the FQP.
