A Higgs bundle is a holomorphic vector bundle, \(E\to X\) over a complex manifold \(X\), together with a holomorphic section \(\theta\), which satisfies the equation \(\theta\Lambda\theta= 0\). One of the purposes of this paper is to give examples of (noncompact) Kähler manifolds with the described Higgs structure which admit Higgs-Hermitian-Yang-Mills metrics. The author also examines vanishing theorems for \((p,q)\)-forms with values in Higgs bundles.
