An interesting and comprehensive overview of the fundamental theoretical results on the use of modules and behaviours in nD systems theory is presented. The behavioural approach to nD system, the concept of a system observable, the duality between the module of system observables and the behaviour are considered. It is shown that the concept of a system observable is common to all approaches and the tightest connection between behaviours and happens to be modules. The problems of constructing an initial condition set and of computing a system's complexity using the Gröbner basis theory are also discussed.
