Solutions of vacuum Einstein equations with plane symmetry or with stationary solutions with axial symmetry are found using the equivalence of vacuum Einstein equations and equations of motion of effective nonlinear sigma model (NSM) which are solved exactly by the functional parameter method. Conditions for the functional parameter are found that are necessary for the existence of the chiral fields and metric coefficients whose connection is also presented. It is shown and illustrated by graphs that by choosing the parameter function one can construct a solution of Einstein equations with the desired behaviour.
