Let \(X\) be an ordered Banach space with a normal and generating cone. A closed linear operator \(B\) is called resolvent positive, if its resolvent set \(\rho(B)\) contains a ray \((\omega,\infty)\) such that \((\lambda- B)^{-1}\) is a positive operator for all \(\lambda> \omega\) [see \textit{W. Arendt}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 54, 321-349 (1987; Zbl 0617.47029) and also \textit{J. Voigt}, Semigroup Forum 38, No. 2, 263-266 (1989; Zbl 0686.47040)]. Suppose \(B\) is resolvent positive. An operator \(C: D(B)\to X\) is called a positive perturbator of \(B\), and \(A= B+C\) is called a positive perturbation of \(B\), if \(\rho(B)\) contains a ray \((\omega,\infty)\) such that the operator \(F(\lambda)= C(\lambda- B)^{-1}\) is a positive operator for all \(\lambda>\omega\). In this case \(\text{spr }F(\lambda)\), the spectral radius of \(F(\lambda)\), is a decreasing superconvex function of \(\lambda\). The author studies the spectral properties of positive perturbations \(A= B+C\) and provides a number of results, which, as he notes, will be used in forthcoming publications on spectral properties of positive operator semigroups. For instance, it is shown that under certain conditions on \(\text{spr }F(\lambda)\), the operator \(A\) is resolvent positive itself. The spectral bound \(s(A)\) is characterized also in terms of \(\text{spr }F(\lambda)\) and conditions are derived for \(s(A)\) to be an eigenvalue of \(A\) and first-order pole of \((\lambda- A)^{-1}\).
