A real \(W^*\)-algebra \(R\) is a real star algebra of bounded linear operators in a complex Hilbert space containing the identity, closed under the weak operator topology, and satisfying \(R \cap iR = \{0\}\). The author states in this research announcement some results concerning \(\sigma\)-finite real factors of type \(\text{III}_0\).
