The author considers the Cauchy problem for the integro-differential equation \[ \begin{aligned} L_{\varepsilon} y&\equiv \varepsilon y^{(n)}+A(t,y,\dots ,y^{(n-2)})y^{(n-1)}=F(t,y,\dots ,y^{(n-2)},J), \tag{1} \\ y(1,\varepsilon)&=y_{0}^{0},\;y'(1,\varepsilon)=y_{1}^{0},\dots,y^{(n-1)}(1,\varepsilon)=y_{n-1}^{0}, \tag{2} \end{aligned} \] where \(0<t<1\), \(\varepsilon>0\) is a small parameter, \[ J\equiv\int^1_0 K\bigl(t,x,y(x,\varepsilon),y'(x,\varepsilon),\dots , y^{(n-2)}(x,\varepsilon)\bigr)y^{(n-1)}(x,\varepsilon) dx, \] and the condition \[ A(t,y,y',\dots ,y^{(n-2)})\geq \gamma =\text{const}>0 \] holds. Alongside (1), the author considers the differential equation \[ L_{\varepsilon} y\equiv \varepsilon y^{(n)}+A(t,y,\dots ,y^{(n-2)})y^{(n-1)}=F(t,y,\dots ,y^{(n-2)},0) \tag{3} \] and the degenerate equation \[ A(t,\overline{y},\dots ,\overline{y}^{(n-2)})\overline{y}^{(n-1)}= F(t,\overline{y},\dots ,\overline{y}^{(n-2)},0). \tag{4} \] It is well known that the solution to the differential Cauchy problem (3), (2) does not converge as \(\varepsilon\rightarrow 0\) to the solution to the Cauchy problem for the degenerate equation (4) and, consequently, has no limit. On the contrary, as the author proves in the present article, the solution to the integro-differential problem (1), (2) has a limit. Moreover, this limit is a function satisfying some modified degenerate equation. The author also constructs asymptotic expansions of a solution to (1), (2).
