For a given \(n\in\mathbb{N}\), the functional equation \[ f\bigl(x+ f (x)^n y\bigr)=f(x)f(y),\tag{1} \] is considered in the case where \(f:X\to\mathbb{K}\), \(\mathbb{K}\in \{\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C}\}\), \(X\) is a Fréchet space over \(\mathbb{K}\). If \(n=1\) and \(f:\mathbb{R} \to\mathbb{R}\), equation (1) becomes that one which was first studied by \textit{S. Gołąb} and \textit{A. Schinzel} [Publ. Math. Debrecen 6, 113-125 (1959; Zbl 0083.35004)]. The author proves that if there are: a real \(a>0\) and a second category set with Baire property \(A\subset|f|^{-1}((0, a)) \), then \(f\) satisfying (1) is continuous or \(f(X)=\{0,1\}\). The theorem implies the following one. Every Baire measurable function \(f:X\to\mathbb{K}\) solving (1) is continuous or \(f(x)=0\) almost everywhere in \(X\). This result corresponds to ones by \textit{C. Gh. Popa} [Ann. Pol. Math. 17, 193-198 (1965; Zbl 0141.32804)] and by the author [Ann. Pol. Math. 64, No. 3, 195-205 (1996; Zbl 0860.39034)].
