The \(f\)-vector of a convex \(d\)-dimensional polytope counts the number of faces per dimension. The \(f\)-vectors of simplicial polytopes, that is, polytopes whose proper faces are simplices, are known by work of \textit{R. P. Stanley} [Adv. Math. 35, 236-238 (1980; Zbl 0427.52006)], \textit{L. J. Billera} and \textit{C. W. Lee} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 31, 237-255 (1981; Zbl 0479.52006)]. The paper under review studies simplicial polytopes \(P\) with a finite solvable group \(G\) of linear symmetries. The author obtains a set of valid inequalities on the \(f\)-vector of \(P\). The key to this result is to relate the toric variety \(X(P)\) associated with \(P\) to the toric variety \(X(P^G)\) associated with the subpolytope \(P^G\) of points which are fixed under the action of \(G\). It is assumed that the fixed points do form a subpolytope for the action of each subgroup of \(G\).
