Umbral calculus and cancellative semigroup algebras (Q1578901)

The author presents some connections between combinatorics (umbral calculus), functional analysis (linear functionals and operators), and harmonic analysis (convolutions as grouplike structures). The notion of cancellative semigroups, their convolution algebras, and tokens between them provide us the necessary tools to describe objects from these three fields. The paper includes several illustrative solved examples, and ends with the presentation of models for different descriptions of the umbral calculus mentioned in the manuscript.
