Let \(\mathfrak g\) be a split affine Lie algebra and \(\mathfrak h\) a Cartan subalgebra. A \(\mathfrak g\) module \(M\) is a weight module if it is the direct sum of its nonzero \(\mathfrak h\) weight spaces. \(M\) is called bounded if the norms of these weights are bounded and \(M\) is called admissible if the dimension of each weight space is finite. The main result of this paper shows that simple bounded weight modules are admissible. As a corollary, all simple subquotients of the enveloping algebra of \(\mathfrak g\) are bounded. A classification is given for these modules as well as for modules whose weights are rational in an appropriate sense. The annihilators of these modules are not the annihilators of any simple highest weight module.
