The author presents a linear, unconditionally converted modal technique to study the vibration response. Material damping is simulated by using the augmented Hooke's law, and the method is based on continuous elastic displacement modes and vibrational stress modes, dual to traditional displacement modes. Finally, the author implicitly uses stress modes to derive a general convergent modal response model for general damping with boundary traction excitation.
