On parametric density of finite circle packings (Q1580063)

The author deals with the problem of the densest finite circle packings concerning parametric density. He shows that the extremal density in lattice case is attained only for critical lattices. He gives an upper bound for the density with parameters \(\rho\leq {3\over 2}+\sqrt 3\). The extremal packings are Groemer packings. Using results by Groemer and Wegner he shows that the above bound holds for arbitrary finite circle packings and parameters less than 1.
