The authors obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the zero solution of the equation \[ x_{n+1}-x_n+p \sum^N_{j=1} x_{n-k+(j-1) \ell}=0, \quad n=0,1,2,\dots, \] by using root-analysis for the characteristic equation.
