Assume the notations: \(D\) a hyperbolic domain in \(\mathbb{C}\), \(\lambda_D(w)\) the hyperbolic metric of \(D\) at \(w\), \(\delta_D(w)\) the infimum Euclidean distance from \(w\) to \(\partial D\), \(w\in D\), \(C(D)=\inf \{\lambda_D(w) \delta_D(w); w\in D\}\), \(\eta(D)= {1\over 2}\sup\{|\nabla\log \lambda_D(w) |[\lambda_D(w)]^{-1}: w\in D\}\). The author considers two problems: \(1^\circ\) Are there simply connected domains other then slit planes for which \(C(D)= {1\over 4}\) or \(\eta(D)= 2\)? \(2^\circ\) How do the sequences \(\{C (D_n)\}\), \(\{\eta(D_n)\}\) behave under Carathéodory kernel convergence of \(\{D_n\}\)? So far as the first question is concerned, he distinguished a class of simply connected domains (``spike domains'') for which there hold \(C(D)={1\over 4}\) and \(\eta(D)=2\). For the second problem, he gives several interesting examples and counterexamples and proves that \(C(D)\geq \limsup_{n\to \infty}C (D_n)\), \(\eta(D) \leq\liminf_{n\to \infty}\eta(D_n)\).
