Let \(A\) be a real \(n\times n\) matrix, for which all eigenvalues have absolute value greater than one (i.e., an expansive matrix). An \(A\)-dilation wavelet is a function \(\psi \in L^2(R^n)\) for which \(\{|\operatorname {det} A|^{m/2} \psi(A^m \cdot -k)\}_{m\in Z, k\in Z^n}\) is an orthonormal basis for \(L^2(R^n)\). The main result is that for any expansive matrix \(A\) for which \(AZ^n \subset Z^n\) and \(|\operatorname {det} A|=2\), there exists an \(A\)-dilation wavelet associated to an MRA (actually an MSF-wavelet, i.e., \(\psi\) can be chosen of the form \(\psi= {\mathcal F}^{-1}(\frac{1}{\mu(A)}\chi_A)\), where \({\mathcal F}\) denotes the Fourier transform and \(\mu(A)\) is the Lebesgue measure of the set \(A\)).
