This paper is concerned with the structure of integrable solutions of the equation \[ u_t=\bigl(|u_x|^{p-2} u_x\bigr)_x-(u^q)_x, \quad x\in\mathbb{R},\;t>0 \] of the form \(u(x,t)= t^{-\alpha} y(\eta)\), \(\eta= x/t^\beta\), where \(p>2\), \(q>1\), \(pg\neq 2(p-1)\) and \[ \alpha= {p-1\over pq-2(p-1)},\quad \beta={q+1-p \over pq-2(p-1)}. \] This transformation reduces the problem to the ordinary differential equation \[ |y'|^{p-2} y'=y^q-\beta\eta y,\;\eta\in\mathbb{R}, \quad M=\int^\infty_{-\infty} y(\eta)d \eta\text{ finite}. \] The main result shows that, for \(M>0\), this problem has a unique solution, it has compact support and is pointwise increasing on \(\mathbb{R}\) with \(M\). The proof is based on comparison methods and the equicontinuity of solutions with respect to \(M\). The final section in the paper relaxes the integrability condition on \(y\) and, using similar techniques, shows that the solutions are integrable if \(y(0)\) is less than some critical value but blowup otherwise.
