The author considers the periodic boundary value problem \[ u''+ f(u) u'+ g(x, u)= h\quad\text{in }(0,2\pi),\;u(0)- u(2\pi)= u'(0)- u'(2\pi)= 0, \] where \(h\in L^1(0, 2\pi)\) is given, \(f: \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}\) is a continuous function and \(g: (0,2\pi)\times \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R}\) is a Carathéodory function. The paper gives solvability theorems to the problem above when \(g\) is allowed to grow superlinearly in \(u\) in one of the directions \(u\mapsto \infty\) and \(u\mapsto- \infty\), and may grow linearly in the other.
