Let \(\mu_\alpha\) be the distribution of a random continued fraction \([1,X_1,1,X_2, 1,X_3,\dots]\), where \(\{X_n\), \(n\geq 1\}\) is an i.i.d. sequence with \(P[X_1=0]=P[X_1 =\alpha] =1/2\) for some \(\alpha>0\). The main result shows that \(\mu_\alpha\) is continuous for every positive \(\alpha\), and is supported on an interval if \(\alpha\leq.5\) and on a Cantor set of Hausdorff dimension less than one otherwise. Moreover, \(\mu_\alpha\) is singular with respect to Lebesgue measure and is concentrated on a set of Hausdorff dimension less than one if \(\alpha\) is sufficiently large. The author conjectures that \(\mu_\alpha\) is absolutely continuous for sufficiently small values of \(\alpha\). This study was motivated by properties of random walks on Galton-Watson trees.
