The authors propose a method to obtain a new measurement of the total mental activity in a specified region of the brain at an instant of time, which can be repeated at high time resolution. This method is able locating the place in the brain where rapid mental processe and subprocesses take place. The authors provide a heuristic approximate solution of the corresponding optimization problem using the theory of prolate wavelets. Some computational experiments are given.
