The paper deals with the BEM formulation for solution of frictionless contact problems in two dimensions using either the first-kind or the second-kind boundary integral equations. In the case of the first-kind BIE symmetric Galerkin implementation is used, while the second-kind BIE are collocated at nodal points. The author discusses the development of BIE for the set of unknowns on the contact area as well as the polynomial interpolation within boundary elements. A detailed analysis of three numerical examples with conforming, receding and advancing contact is presented. The accuracy of numerical results obtained by both the formulations is compared with analytical and FEM results.
