Let \(R\) be a finite ring with identity and \(M\) be a finite left unitary module over \(R\). Any function \(\omega: M\to R\) such that the map \((x,y)\mapsto \omega(x-y)\) is a translation-invariant metric on \(M\) is called a weight. A weight \(\omega\) is egalitarian if all nonzero submodules have the same average weight and homogeneous if, in addition to being egalitarian, \(\omega(x)= \omega(ux)\) for any \(x\in M\) and \(u\in R^\times\), where \(R^\times\) is the multiplicative group of invertible elements in \(R\). The authors develop criteria for the existence of such egalitarian and homogeneous weights, generalizing previous results of \textit{I. Constantinescu} and \textit{W. Heise} [see for example, ibid. 33, 208-213 (1997; Zbl 0977.94055)]. Note that a shorter article with the same title has previously appeared [\textit{W. Heise}, \textit{T. Honold} and \textit{A. Nechaev}, Proc. ACCT-XI, Pskov, Russia, 123-129 (1998; Zbl 0951.94013)].
