This paper considers the existence of equilibrium points or 4 classes of problems: minimization, saddle point, variational inequalities, and complementarity. It gives a very general sufficient condition, based on the Fan Lemma, for the existence of an equilibrium point. The paper then shows how this existence result can be applied to the 4 classes of problems. These results greatly generalize those of Schaible (1998).
