Following \textit{M. Henriksen} and \textit{J. R. Isbell} [Duke Math. J. 25, 83-105 (1958; Zbl 0081.38604)]\ the author employs the following notion: the space \(X\) possesses some property \(\mathcal P\) in infinity, if for every compact extension \(bX\) of the space \(X\) the remainder \(bX\smallsetminus X\) has the property \(\mathcal P\). The author establishes that the free topological group of any infinite compact is not \(\sigma\)-metacompact in infinity and, if the topological group has a countable remainder in some compact Hausdorff extension, it is either locally compact or separable and metrizable.
