The note under review deals with estimates of various functionals on entire functions. Let \(f\) be a canonical product of non-integer order \(\rho \) with only negative zeros, \(n(r)\) be the counting function of its zeros, \(q= [\rho ]\), \[ B(r,f)=\sup _{0< \theta < \pi } |\log f(r e^{i \theta })| \] \(\Phi (r) = r^{-q-1} B(r,f)\), \(\phi (r) = r^{-q-1} n(r)\), \(M \phi (r) = \sup _{\varepsilon >0} \frac{1}{2\varepsilon } \int _{|t-r|< \varepsilon} \phi (t) dt\), \[ H^* \phi (r) = \sup _{\varepsilon >0} \frac{1}{\pi} |\int _{|t-r|> \varepsilon} \frac{\phi (t) dt}{t-r}. \] \textit{D. Shea} and \textit{S. Wainger} [ibid. 25, 41-50 (1981; Zbl 0446.30014)] proved the inequality \[ \Phi (r) \leq 12 M\phi (r) + \pi H^* \phi (r) + 10 \int ^{\infty } _{0} \frac{\phi (t)}{t+r} dt. \] The present authors improve this inequality to \[ \Phi (r) \leq \pi M\phi (r) + \pi M(H \phi)(r) + \int ^{\infty } _{0} \frac{\phi (t)}{t+r} dt, \] where \(H\) is the Hilbert transform.
