An abstract iterative procedure for monotone potential operators by using a functional inequality (called in the paper the convexity argument) is proposed. Then, as applications the convergence of the iteration scheme for: a) mixed boundary value problems for a nonlinear elliptic equation and b) Sturm-Liouville-type problems are established.
