The main objective of this paper is to develop a monotone scheme to approximate the solution of the first-order hyperbolic initial-boundary value problem in one-space dimension with a source term. Such equation describes, for example, the evolution of a size structured population where individuals are competing for common resources. The authors present existence and uniqueness results for the given problem and define upper and lower solutions. Further, they construct two auxiliery monotone sequences and show their convergence to the solution of the given problem. Finally, making use of the derived results they derive a practical scheme to approximate the desired solution. At the end of the paper they give a numerical experiment to illustrate the feasibility of the scheme.
